Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CSCO) former Chief of Technology, Padmasree Warrior, is headed to Chinese electric car startup, NextEV Inc, as the US head. The Tencent-controlled NextEV In will continue to explore Chinese markets with manufacturing local. The startup is currently well-funded with over $1 billion for its 2016 foray to build the electric supercar.
Women in Technology:
Padmasree Warrior, aged 55, is expected to head the US Chief Executive Officer as well as head of software development as well as user experience. She is currently on the board of Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) as one of the Directors.
Warrior expounded that the focus for the ex-Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CSCO) CTO is to build not just super electric cars, but to build the entire mobile-internet automotive experience.
NextEV:
The NextEV was founded in 2014 by William Li, the Chinese Chairman of Bitauto Holdings Ltd, a portal that prices cars, apart from being a front for internet entrepreneurs. The ex-CEO of auto manufacturer Maserati and ex-President of Ford Europe, Martin Leach is the President of NextEV. Ex- Cisco Systems, Inc.(NASDAQ:CSCO) CTO Warrior now adds to the top-line at EMVmanagement with her technical experience and leadership.
NextEV is one of the more six and more electric-vehicle businesses in China. All of them are very well funded and are quietly building their US-presence, by opening units in California. The US units include local engineering talent. The cars which NextEV will make will first sell in China before it is launched in other markets. According to the founder-Chairman of NextEV the company is likely to launch a supercar by end of 2016 which will zoom from zero to 60 miles in an hour in 2.8 seconds. NextEV’s president adds that there is ‘open capacity’ for manufacturing in China. The company is in discussions with manufacturers, he said. The plan is to eventually run own factories, but it is currently not a priority, Leach added.
